![]() You and the little Messiah, Niko, would not fail. Sometimes you’d indulge to bask in their glow, and other times you would shyly decline their worship and provided them the breathless promise of salvation. Niko and the denizens of this world were blissfully unaware of such a carefully-crafted facade, buying into the plastic smiles and bewitching laughter as you shrugged away their concerns and drank in their awes and prayers at witnessing a living God. You knew this- the Spirit of the world knew this. Inwardly, you withered and curled like the blackened tips of a sunflower’s petals. You laughed cheerlessly, gently rubbing their hand with your thumb from beneath the fabric of their oversized sleeves. How dare it insinuate that you were frivolous as to shirk your duty in such a manner. How dare this… this THING talk to you like this. You silently grit your teeth, taking specific care not to clench your fists lest you’d risk hurting Niko’s little hand. They frowned, little fangs glinting from the soft glow of the light bulb. “You got really quiet,” they said, seemingly transfixed onto you. Their watchfulness had suddenly become unbearable to you, the vertigo making you sway. Niko nodded slowly, delicately cradling the sun with their free arm. “I’m sorry, I must have spaced out there for a second. “Hm?” you blinked, smiling kindly down at the young messiah and gazing into their large, inquisitive eyes. Nothing escaped those eyes of theirs, honey-gold and more luminous than the sun itself. Niko was but a child, yes- but they were alarmingly keen for their age. Snapping out of such a hazy daze proved to be a laborious task, but you needed to regain your senses quickly before they caught on that something was wrong. They tugged lightly, calling your name in that lilting voice sweeter than maple syrup. Niko could detect your anxiety almost immediately, small hands tightening around yours comfortingly. Whether it be from the uneasy tremble of the elevator or the inevitability of the truth sinking its claws inch-deep into your consciousness, you knew not. You hoped it to be so with the entirety of your being, and yet nothing could quell the violent nausea that overtook your senses as you dwelled drearily upon The Entity’s words. While cheerfulness was paramount in such situations, you found such a thing was near-impossible to manage, now. Luck couldn’t play a single part in this entire act, however- though you weren’t quite aware of this. Nobody had ever succeeded at anything major on the first attempt- not unless luck happened to be on your side. Then again, perhaps that there was your biggest mistake. You thought you had done everything right. ![]() March 18-21 Spring Break in La Jolla in the Mission Valley Classic, hosted by San Diego State and USD.ģ.The Fairview boys tennis team rolls into regional play this week confident knowing its full lineup of players is ready to compete with anyone. 21-22: Minnesota and Vanderbilt at Harvard. 17-21: ITA Individual Regionals at at the US Open site in Flushing Meadows.įebruary 7-8: Evanston, Illinois to play top ranked Boise State (coached by legendary coach and friend Greg Patton) and Northwestern.įeb. 19-21: Napa Valley Classic hosted by UC Berkley featuring many of the top teams in the country. Fish's USTA New England Hall of Fame Induction I find it a really sweet scene.Ĭue Kanon arriving, and him being introduced to Battler. The whole bit with the rose garden, Maria’s sadness for that one wilting rose, and hope playing throughout. Loved the scene with Maria and misfortune, and, of course, “Uu-.”Īnd when they’ve finally arrived on Rokkenjima, I can’t help but appreciate the slow introduction of the island, how we’re led through it, almost as if it’s a character in its own right. “Yeah, Battler, all weak… I wanna die on land, not in the ocean or the sky…” It’s actually reasonably apparent in the original sprites too I’d never noticed it before. When Rudolf, Kyrie and Battler talk about Battler not wanting to be like his parents, and Rudolf saying he’s already pissed Battler’s nose looks like his… I was looking at the new sprites, and holy shit, but Battler’s nose looks almost identical to Kyrie’s. Always loved that song since I heard all the variations of it from Higurashi, to the point I actually learned to play it on the piano <3ĭid that last line tug at anyone else’s heartstrings as well, considering, y’know… Maria? ![]() Oh, I forgot that hope played at the beginning. I do kind of like her new sprite overall, though. I’m occasionally switching to the new sprites to check them, and holy crap, Maria’s eyes are absolutely ENORMOUS when she’s first introduced. Could she have somehow found the gold the previous year, and then started making her plans for the next conference? Hmm… Though iirc she did once say she never loved Ange and only saw her as a way to bind Rudolf to her (but I guess that’d still mean she’d have an interest in keeping her alive), and it does imply it being fully premeditated even before even arriving on the island, unlike the clusterfuck we saw in EP7, for example. After all, as far as she knows, it’s only Ange that’s her biological child, so it’s only her she’d bother to protect from the killings to come. Speaking of, somehow I never realized until just now how incredibly convenient it is for Kyrie that Ange stayed behind this conference. Man, I forgot that Battler straight-up talks about his dad’s masturbation habits to Kyrie and her keeping that shit in line. Kinzo and BEATORIIIIIIIIIIICHEEEEEE! And awesome OP. So, I finally started my reread in earnest with a light bit of two-hour reading. It gives us the proper time to get to know the cast of (already considerable) characters it starts off, as others have mentioned, slice-of-life-y, but you quickly start realizing things won’t stay all suns and daisies for long when the argument over the inheritance comes up in full.Īnd that is before letters arrive and bodies start dropping.īut god yes, as Karifean said, once you know The Truth, it becomes so incredibly obvious as to what is really going on–but to me, that only makes rereading it more fascinating. The magic hasn’t been truly introduced yet, which both makes it the most straight-forward of the EPs, and the one standing out from the others as a true gameboard as it would be witnessed from ‘inside’. EP1 really is indeed an EP radically different from all the others. ![]() ![]() Use finely chopped onion and minced garlic. Onion & Garlic - usual aromatics used in indian recipes. But I did! It took some time and actually it took some help from them to get into thinking indie again, to get thinking that the important thing is to get this band sounding right as a band and not to go wild in the studio and start recording a lot of vibraphones and backing vocals and things. The album is just kind of a luxury version of that. "The demos had been recorded very simply in rehearsal rooms and kitchens," Johansson explains, "so they were very rough, but they worked well. The producer was first sent the Franz Ferdinand demos in the spring of 2003 and says he was immediately impressed by the artful energy of the songs, no matter how makeshift the actual recordings were. ![]() ![]() "When you go into studios for whole albums, 30 or 40 days," he points out, "natural light is so important. More than anything else, the producer credits this working environment for helping him to regain his enthusiasm for studio recording. Gula - Swedish for 'yellow' - is bright and airy with plenty of natural light. On his return to Malmo, Johansson began working in a new sister facility of Tambourine, Gula Studion, which had been recently built in an old printing factory. I had no idea how many people were sitting out there with Pro Tools doing fantastic demos of fantastic songs with fantastic singers." But then when I came to England and started to write, I hadn't realised that the competition was so tough. "I was actually fed up of working in studios with bands. But despite moderate successes with Mel C and Sophie-Ellis Bextor, he says he didn't much enjoy the experience. Johansson then relocated to England for a year, writing and producing pop tracks on a Pro Tools setup from his home in Sussex. So my first five years actually working as a producer, that was very much developing and growing up together with the Cardigans." Natural Light, Natural Sound Every time we started on a new album, we sat down and listened to the old album and we decided what we liked about it and what we didn't like about it and what direction the new album should go in. "When we started out, I was very inexperienced and we kind of grew up together. ![]() Most of these albums were recorded at his now-defunct Tambourine studio in Malmo, and Johansson admits that having to negotiate the group's stylistic diversions down the years really helped to expand his repertoire as a producer. In other ways, of course, Johansson was the perfect man for the job, having guided the Cardigans through five albums, from the jangling guitars of 1996's First Band On The Moon, through the pristine electronic pop of Gran Turismo in 2002 to the polished country-rock of last year's Long Gone Before Daylight. Normally I reach for '60s and '70s records when I'm in the studio, so it was a change to bring out those old synthesizers instead of the Hammond organ."įranz Ferdinand, taking more than their musical influences from the early '80s. "But I thought that was what was fresh about Franz Ferdinand, the fact that they made reference to these early '80s records. "I didn't get into the post-punk stuff at the time," he says. He admits to having only a sketchy knowledge of the scratchy early-'80s guitar bands like Orange Juice and Josef K that the group list as their main influences. But when Malmo-based producer Tore Johansson was first approached to work with the Scottish quartet, he might have easily been forgiven for thinking their record company had the wrong man. With UK sales of 300,000 and rising, Franz Ferdinand's debut album is the surprise indie-to-mainstream hit of the year, thanks in no small part to their angular guitar-funk single 'Take Me Out' making the top 10 back in February. Cardigans producer Tore Johansson was thrown into unfamiliar musical territory when asked to produce the debut album by Scottish guitar band Franz Ferdinand, but the result was a commercial and artistic triumph. |
